Become a Radiology Technician
If you ever want to become a radiology technician and take part in the benefits and privileges that
it has to offer, then you better start early in getting quality education and training. Many
individuals have been pursuing the radiology tech career not only because of the job security it
offers, but also because of the high-paying jobs that it promises for those who work hard for it.
Since you are working in the field of healthcare, it is not unusual for you to hear about the
lucrative salary this career can get you, and one of the reasons for that is because the duties of a
radiology tech is very technical in nature.
In the current times, diagnostic imaging procedures such as x-ray, computed tomography (CT), and
magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are very prevalent, especially with the increase in incidence of
many medical conditions like cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and cancer. With the help of these
technologies, doctors can effectively and efficiently come up with the correct diagnosis for a
patient and provide the necessary treatment as well. Interestingly, the Bureau of Labor Statistics
stated that the radiology tech career can expect an estimated growth rate of 17 percent throughout
the year 2018.
To become eligible for any employment opportunity as a radiology tech, you will have to obtain at
least an associate’s degree or a bachelor’s degree in radiology technology depending on the school
you will be enrolling in and the regulations in your state. The most common training program is the
associate’s degree because of the relatively short time it takes to complete the program while also
getting an individual qualified for many lucrative positions. If you want to take everything up a
notch, you can pursue a bachelor’s degree and be qualified to perform more complex tasks as a
radiology tech.
The radiology tech school you choose will also have a significant effect on the direction of your
career. Since it is there that you will be acquiring the foundations of your career through
education and training, it is important that you choose a school that offers quality education and
will truly help you all the way in achieving your dreams. Always make sure that the school you get
into offers training programs that are accredited by either the Joint Review Committee on Education
in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
To ensure that you become a radiology technician that is truly competent and proficient in his
knowledge and skills, it is a must to get certification with the ARRT regardless as to whether or
not the state you plan on working in requires it. You will be much more attractive to employers as a
radiology tech applicant if you have the word “certified” on your resume. You may also choose to
receive continuing education and specialize in areas such as mammography, angiography, CT and MRI.
The more areas you specialize in, the better chances you have of getting noticed and becoming
qualified for the best employment opportunities.
